Navy Yard, Washington D.C.

Also known as Near Southeast, Navy Yard is a neighborhood in the southeastern quadrant of Washington, D.C. Located along the banks of the Anacostia River, this region was once a heart of commercial shipping and naval shipbuilding — this legacy lives on today in the neighborhood’s name.

Over the District’s history, Navy Yard’s importance as an industrial center fell, and the neighborhood was transformed into a locale for entertainment and recreation. Both the Washington Nationals of the MLB and the DC United MLS teams have their stadiums in Navy Yard, and residents can beat the summer heat at beautiful waterfront parks.

Most of the neighborhood’s residents rent, rather than purchasing property. The real estate that is available consists largely of townhomes and condominiums, with single-family homes being somewhat rare.

Navy Yard is a supremely walkable neighborhood, with plenty of options for walking paths, bike sharing services, and convenient Metro access. Navy Yard is serviced by the Navy Yard – Ballpark stop on the Green Line.
