The Washington Redskins currently play its home games at FedEx Field in Landover, MD, but after the team released rendered concepts for a new stadium — there has been talk about the Redskins moving back to DC. Now it appears the ‘Skins could be passing over the District and be headed for Northern Virginia.
Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe was on ESPN’s radio show Friday, and said there are serious negotiations with the team to build a new stadium in Northern Virginia. McAuliffe is pushing for the team to move to a site along the Silver Line— he named multiple areas including Tysons, Reston/Wiehle and Dulles Airport/Ashburn.
The team, which has a lease at FedEx Field until 2027, currently practices in Ashburn, VA. Owner Dan Snyder hired famed architect Bjarke Ingels to design a new stadium (picture of concept above), but the location has yet to be determined.
DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has also been pushing the football team, but it’s seemed unlikely unless the team decides to change its name, which, as long as it’s owned by Dan Snyder, will not happen.
